Angelique Pouponneau is a lawyer (Seychelles and UK) who holds an LLM in Environmental Law specializing in the law of the sea and natural resources. She is also a trained climate change negotiator under the AOSIS Climate Change Fellowship Programme at the United Nations. Until recently she was the Chief Executive Officer of the Seychelles’ Conservation and Climate Adaptation Trust. She is now pursuing a Ph.D. in Law on regulatory frameworks for blue finance and is a policy adviser on ocean and climate matters to the Chair of the Alliance of Small Island States. The New African Magazine recognised her as one of the 100 most influential Africans in 2021.
Pouponneau has worked in different countries in the Caribbean, Pacific and the Indian Ocean on a wide range of projects relating to sustainable fisheries and sustainable management of marine biodiversity within and beyond national jurisdiction. She serves on the advisory board of the UN Ocean Decade and as an alternate Board Member of the UNFCCC’s Adaptation Fund.
