Chair, United Nations Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection
Professor David Vousden has a career spanning some 35 years, during which he has worked globally in various governmental and United Nations positions, all related to environmental management (both marine and terrestrial). During this period, his career has evolved through the development and ‘field-proving’ of state-of-the-art monitoring and analysis, into broader yet still cutting-edge management techniques and thence to innovative adaptive management and governance mechanisms for the global ocean and for coastal areas. He has provided expert advice and professional evaluation services to marine ecosystem management and ocean governance initiatives throughout the global ocean and in many of the world’s seas. Currently, he is engaged in developing management strategies for Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction and the High Seas as well as advising on the maintenance of sustainable fisheries in the face of climate change.
Vousden is the current Chair of GESAMP (Joint Group of Experts on the Scientific Aspects of Marine Environmental Protection), a multinational independent body of high-level scientific advisors to the United Nations system on both ongoing and newly arising marine environmental scientific issues.
