Erica Woolsey

Dr. Erika Woolsey is a coral reef ecologist, National Geographic Explorer and leader of the Hydrous, a non-profit dedicated to translating marine science into public understanding through creating equitable access to ocean exploration to help people realize their ocean connection.

As a marine biologist, divemaster and virtual reality filmmaker, she loves bringing people to the ocean, both in real life and virtually. Her mission is to share the beauty of the ocean with everyone and foster an understanding of its complexities and importance, in order to inspire others to build their own tools to solve the ocean issues closest to them.

Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Woolsey conducted her PhD research in coral reef ecology at James Cook University on the Great Barrier Reef, earned her Master of Applied Science degree in Coastal Management from the University of Sydney and studied biology and art history at Duke University. She is also a Lecturer and Visiting Scholar at Stanford University.
