Jacqueline Rivera is a civil engineer and vulcanological monitoring coordinator at the Hazards Monitoring Center of the General Directorate of the Environmental Observatory (DOA) at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN). Prior to her current role, she worked there as an impact-based forecast specialist and has previous experience working in early flood warning monitoring.
She holds a degree in civil engineering from the National University of El Salvador and a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Development from the University of Seoul, South Korea. She received a dissertation award for the latter in recognition of her work on early warning systems for flood forecasts in El Salvador. Rivera was also involved in the development and implementation of the WRN (Weather Ready Nation) project in El Salvador and Guatemala, where she worked on landslide hazard monitoring. Her interests include research and its applications into natural hazards, the use of geographical information systems for better interpretation and communication of information from different sources and types on issues of natural and environmental threats, territorial, regional and urban planning and the applied topics of geomorphology.
