Dr. Jorge Arturo Jiménez is the General Director of the MarViva Foundation for Costa Rica, Panama and Colombia, a position he has held for the last 15 years. Over the course of his career, he has spent more than 30 years working on issues related to marine spatial planning, wetland conservation and biological inventories. As part of this, Jiménez has been Director of the Organization for Tropical Studies (OTS) in Costa Rica, Director of Biological Inventories at INBIo and a researcher at the Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center (CATIE). He has also served as Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Ramsar Convention, Scientific Director of Wetlands International and was the recipient of Costa Rica’s National Science Award in 1990.
In addition, Jiménez holds a Ph.D. in Marine Ecology from the University of Miami and has extensive experience in the field of scientific research. He has taught at universities in Australia, Latin America, the United States and Europe.
