Postdoctoral Researcher in Physical Oceanography, Scottish Association of Marine Science (SAMS), UK
Dr. Burmeister is one of those people who has been fascinated by the ocean since childhood. As soon as it was possible, she learned scuba diving to explore the ocean for herself.
In her professional life, Burmeister is interested in the variability of the ocean circulations and water masses. She did her Ph.D. on changes in ocean currents and oxygen in the tropical Atlantic at GEOMAR (Kiel, Germany). Now, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS, Oban, UK) and her research focuses on the entire Atlantic. She is investigating how and why ocean currents and their impact on temperature, salinity and biogeochemical components like oxygen are changing. She works with observational data as well as model simulations. With her work, she hopes to identify key drivers of variability in certain Atlantic regions of ecological and economical importance. This is crucial to detect and predict ecosystem tipping points within these regions.
Burmeister enjoys sharing her research and knowledge about the ocean beyond the scientific community. She loves turning ideas into reality and values making an active contribution to a sustainable lifestyle in both her professional and private life
