Dr. Mojib Latif, a native of Hamburg, studied meteorology before receiving his Ph.D. and Habilitation, both in Oceanography, from the University of Hamburg.
Between 1989 and 2002, he worked as a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg, including as a Research Group Leader. Since 2003, Latif has been a Full Professor at the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel and works at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel.
His research primarily focuses on natural climate variability and anthropogenic climate change. He is President of the German Club of Rome Association. Over the course of his career, he has also received several prizes, including the prestigious “Sverdrup Gold Medal” awarded by the American Meteorological Society in 2000.
In 2015, Latif received the “Deutscher Umweltpreis” from the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU). In 2016, he was awarded the Order of Merit of the German federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. In 2019, he received the “Alfred-Wegener-Medaille” from the German Meteorological Society.
