Dr. Nelson A. Lagos is a marine biologist with a Ph.D. in Ecology. Currently a professor at the Faculty of Sciences and Director of the Centro de Investigación e Innovación para el Cambio Climático (CiiCC) at the Santo Tomás University in Chile.
Dr. Lagos develops research into the ecology of benthic ecosystems and is the principal investigator and coordinator of lines of action in research projects aimed at evaluating the biological responses of marine invertebrates to climate stressors and their impacts on the structure and function of marine ecosystems of the south-eastern Pacific coasts.
Lagos directs and coordinates observational and experimental field studies aimed at evaluating the variability in shell carbonate production along the Chilean coast and the use of shell carbonates to design bio-enhanced substratum in ecological restoring initiatives (ANID Fondecyt #1221322 and ANID—Millennium Science Initiative Program—ICN 2019_015 / SECOS).
He is a member of the SOLAS-IMBER working group on Ocean Acidification (SIOA) and the scientific advisory board of the International Coordination Center for Ocean Acidification (OA-ICC). He is also the Chilean representative in the Latin American Ocean Acidification (LAOCA) Network.
