Dr. Steven Bograd is an oceanographer at NOAA’s Southwest Fisheries Science Center in Monterey, CA, and holds an adjunct faculty position at the Department of Ocean Sciences, University of California-Santa Cruz. His research is focused on climate impacts on marine ecosystems, with an emphasis on eastern boundary upwelling systems. Bograd is currently Co-Chair of two UN Decade of Ocean Science Programs, SmartNet and SUPREME, and co-chairs the Advisory Panel on the UN Decade of Ocean Science for the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES). He also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Fisheries Oceanography. Bograd received B.Sc. degrees in physics and atmospheric sciences from the University of Arizona, an M.Sc. in atmospheric sciences at the University of Washington, and a Ph.D. in physical oceanography from the University of British Columbia, followed by a post-doctoral appointment at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He was born and grew up in Mississippi, USA, but has spent most of his adult life on the U.S. West Coast.
