Postdoctoral researcher, Utrecht University & Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology
Dr. Tanja Stratmann studied biology (B.Sc.) at the University of Bremen (Germany) and the University of Oviedo (Spain) before completing an M.Sc. in Biology at Aarhus University (Denmark) and an M.Sc. in Statistical Data Analysis at Ghent University (Belgium). In 2014 she started her Ph.D. in Marine Sciences in the European multidisciplinary research program “MIDAS” (“Managing Impacts of Deep-Sea Resource Exploitation”) at NIOZ – Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NL) in collaboration with Ghent University. Stratmann defended her Ph.D. thesis entitled “Benthic ecosystem response to polymetallic nodule extraction in the deep sea” in 2018, for which she was awarded the Paul van Oye Prize of the Royal Flemish Academy of Belgium for Science and the Arts in 2019. After short postdoctoral researcher positions at NIOZ and at Ghent University, the Dutch Research Council awarded her the RUBICON grant in 2019 for her research project “Gold rush in the deep sea: Impacts of deep-sea mining induced sediment plumes on the abyssal ecosystem”. This funding allows her to work as a guest researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, while being a postdoctoral researcher at Utrecht University.
